PMC Research’s Director Chosen to Conduct Research by CAREC Institute’s Visiting Fellow Program

Mr. Giorgi Khishtovani, Director at PMC Research, has been selected as one of the two finalists in the Visiting Fellow Program of the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC) Institute, and will accordingly conduct vital research this year.

The main goal of this study is to identify policies in CAREC countries that are effective in leveraging labor emigration for the development of local human capital, and to analyze the their transfer potential for other CAREC countries in order to establish a synchronized labor migration infrastructure, and prevent the waste of human capital across borders.

Mr. Khishtovani, supported by center´s research staff, will analyze the development-oriented remittance policies and fintech solutions, private partnerships and the involvement of local governments in development-oriented migration management. The research will also look into the proactive measures taken and bilateral agreements reached between governments, which suitably prepare labor emigrants and recognize skills across borders.

"Labor migration tends to have a pronounced local dimension that is often overlooked - residents of a specific region in origin country migrate to a specific region in the destination country. Therefore, the involvement of local authorities in the management of these migration processes is extremely relevant,” said Mr. Khishtovani.
